Terms of Use
Last updated: July 11, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Likelemba. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms.
Your wallet and how money moves
Likelemba gives every member a digital wallet, and every Tontine circle, AVEC circle, and Fundraiser its own group wallet. These wallets are held in custody by our regulated payment and custody partners on your behalf. Likelemba itself is a technology platform, not a bank or lender, and does not take custody of your funds outside of this wallet infrastructure.
Contributions, entry payments, payouts, and credit repayments move directly between wallets the moment they are confirmed in the app, and every movement is recorded as an entry in an auditable ledger. You can add money to your wallet or take money out of it using mobile money, a debit or credit card, or cash pickup through our payment partners.
Likelemba is not a party to, and does not guarantee, any contribution, payout, loan, or repayment between members: these remain arrangements between the members of a circle, based on their own trust and agreement. Our role is to provide the wallet infrastructure that lets those arrangements settle instantly and transparently.
Who can use Likelemba
You must be able to form a binding contract under the laws that apply to you, and you must provide a valid phone number to verify your account via SMS one-time code.
You are responsible for keeping your PIN, device, and account credentials secure, and for all activity that happens under your account.
Circles, roles, and your responsibilities
A circle has one Admin and may assign Cashier and Secretary roles to other members; everyone else is a Member. Each role carries different permissions: the Admin manages members and loans, the Cashier confirms contributions and payouts, and the Secretary manages meetings and minutes.
If you accept the Admin, Cashier, or Secretary role in a circle, you are responsible to the other members of that circle for performing that role honestly and accurately. Likelemba is not responsible for decisions made by circle Admins, Cashiers, or Secretaries.
Contributions, loans, and AVEC circles
In a Tontine circle, all members contribute the same amount each cycle and take turns receiving the full payout. In an AVEC circle, each member sets their own contribution amount, and the circle Admin can record loans funded from the group fund, with interest and repayment terms set by the circle itself, not by Likelemba.
Likelemba does not underwrite, fund, or guarantee any loan made within a circle. Loan terms, interest, and repayment are agreed between circle members.
Credits between members
Members can request or offer a credit to another member, negotiate the amount, interest and repayment schedule through counter offers, and sign the final agreement in the app. Both parties must sign before a credit becomes active, and the signed agreement is generated as a PDF document protected by a cryptographic seal that lets anyone verify it has not been altered.
Where your device supports it, you may be asked to confirm your signature with Face ID or a fingerprint. This confirmation happens entirely on your device: Likelemba never receives or stores your biometric data, only a confirmation that your device verified you.
Likelemba is not a party to any credit between members. We do not underwrite, fund, guarantee or collect any credit, and the agreement is binding between the members who signed it.
Cycle charters and electronic signatures
When a circle cycle starts, its rules (amounts, frequency, penalties and payout order) are frozen into a charter that every member signs in the app. Once the last member has signed, the charter becomes a PDF carrying all signatures and a cryptographic seal, generated in the language of each member and shared with the whole circle.
By signing a charter or a credit agreement in the app, you agree that your electronic signature expresses your acceptance of its content, in the same way as a handwritten signature.
Documents and attachments
You can attach files such as receipts, photos and contracts to a credit, or share a circle rulebook with all members. You are responsible for the content you upload: you must have the right to share it, and it must not be illegal, misleading or harmful. We store attachments so that the members concerned can view, save or share them, and we may remove content that violates these terms.
Private conversations
Every circle, credit and fundraiser has its own conversation. Messages are stored encrypted, and only the members of a conversation can read them. Conversations remain subject to the prohibited conduct rules below, and reported content may be reviewed as part of a complaint.
Fundraisers
A Fundraiser is a one-time collection toward a goal (such as a wedding, medical emergency, funeral, or trip), organised by one member on behalf of themselves or a beneficiary. Likelemba records contributions to the fundraiser, but the organiser is solely responsible for remitting collected funds to the intended recipient.
Fees
Creating an account and joining circles is free. Adding money to your wallet or taking money out of it (by mobile money, card, or cash pickup) may carry a fee charged by that payment method, shown to you before you confirm. Sending money to another member carries a small platform fee, also shown before you send. There are no additional fees on confirmed contributions, payouts, or loan repayments themselves.
Prohibited conduct
You may not use Likelemba for fraud, scams, money laundering, or any illegal purpose; to harass or defraud other members; or to misrepresent your identity, role, or the status of a circle, loan, or fundraiser.
Reports and complaints
If you believe a member or circle has engaged in fraud, a scam, non-payment, or other misconduct, you can file a report from within the app. Reports are reviewed by our team, who may suspend accounts or circles found to be in violation of these terms.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or deactivate an account that violates these terms, that we reasonably believe is fraudulent, or at your own request. You may stop using Likelemba at any time.
Limitation of liability
Likelemba is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from disputes between circle members, unpaid contributions or loans, or the conduct of any circle Admin, Cashier, Secretary, or organiser.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app. Continued use of Likelemba after a change means you accept the updated terms.
